2019 Ford Ranger Still Undergoing Tests

Though Ford has already unveiled the upcoming 2019 Ranger at the North American International Auto Show, the modelís prototypes are still hard at work ironing out all the kinks before next yearís U.S. launch. This camouflaged example was spotted by Carscoops reader Brett Borgard and the exterior probably hasnít changed since its debut, so let us skip straight to the pickupís specs.

No matter which trim buyers opt for, each Ranger will be equipped with the same 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine and a ten-speed automatic transmission. Ford has not released the exact output of said engine, bit the same power unit is in the Mustang and that car delivers 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.

Once ordering books are open, you can choose from three different trim-levels in SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations. Those who prefer single cabs will have to make do. Ford will also be offering two styling packages with the more performance oriented one being the FX4 Off-Road Package.

Not only will the factory install special shocks, all-terrain tires, electronic-locking rear differential and underbody skid plates, but the Ranger will also receive a tech upgrade. The package includes a Trail Control system and a terrain management system with four different drive modes including normal, grass, gravel / snow and mud / ruts.

Even without all the bells and whistles, a standard 2019 Ranger still has much to offer.

The 2020 Explorer is huge if it's the same length as the Ranger. What's more it may have a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine and 400 hp and torque. ****, may as well use that to tow if you don't need a truck bed.

Well hopefully Ford has made significant improvements to the Explorer, because I know past generations have been known to be fairly unreliable. That's quite the new powertrain that its using though. Wonder what its towing and storage capacity are like.

There seems to be a white bag of some kind in the Ranger's pickup bed. I assume it's to weigh down the truck for real world testing, though I would expect something larger and closer to the bed's maximum capacity.
