Ram already has a mild hybrid system in the new 1500, but it looks like they are having difficulty getting it approved by the EPA. They are plenty of dealers who are still waiting on the more fuel efficient models to be delivered.

I doubt it will do much to the brand because anyone that really wants it will wait.
Truck buyers are loyal to brands, rarely to do they move around.
In the end sales will be right in proportion to how they are with the current trim line up

Fords new diesel powerstroke has also seen a lot of delays, so we might be further off from full hybrid systems than automakers claim. I know a lot of that has to do with tightening emission restrictions, and I assume those only get more severe with hybrid/electric components.

Great time to sell a regular F150 while value might be higher because of this or at least sustained. Once those models are green lighted and ready for market, prices of past models will tank.

I think it'll be a few years before we see any come to market, and people might be hesitant to jump into an unproven platform. Guess we'll have to see what the response is like for the new mild hybrid Ram.

Being one of the big three pick up truck makers goes a long way. Hyundai is working on a pick up as we speak, they won't see nearly as much interest as RAM, Ford and GM.
What will be more important is timing and how well they launch these on the market compared to rivals, right down individual specs and options.

I think the earliest that Hyundai has said we'll see the Santa Cruz is 2020, but it is looking to be a proper standard cab pickup. My guess is it will also get some form of electrification, considering as how many trucks will probably have hybrid systems of some kind by then.

There have been some spy shots of another camouflaged pickup concept from Hyundai, but nobody seems to know what it is. This could mean that the company is planning on coming to market with two trucks simultaneously. Perhaps one midsize and one full size?

what we need to take into consideration is that the Hyundai Pick Up Concept was shown off a long time ago, a lot of things have changed from then till now. With that big time gap its enough for Hyundai or any car maker for that matter to shift strategies.

There are going to be quite a few new pickups in the segment by the time 2020 rolls around. Jeep will release the Scrambler, FCA will release another midsize (possibly Dakota), and Hyundai will hopefully launch their new model. Mazda should consider bringing the B series back to NA as well.
