Ford Ranger takes top spot in 4X4 sales

It looks like the Ranger has reclaimed its top position on both monthly and year to date 4X4 sales in Australia. Ford sold 3467 units in March to bring their YTD sales up to 9457, just outselling the Toyota Hilux. Hopefully it see similar figures when it launches here in North America.

Surprised it outsold the Hilux with Toyota's reputation as a reliable brand to everyone, though it is pretty hideous compared to the Ranger. Now I'm just waiting for a drive review of the Ranger in Australia's outback.

Hopefully since its official price for Australia has been confirmed, we'll get some early test drives in the coming weeks. Really curious to see how this new 'Baja Mode' performs in the turbo diesel powertrain.

I actually don't find the Hilux to be that terrible looking, at least in the TRD trim. But that does prove that pickup owners in Australia as just as concerned with reliability as they are with aesthetics.

Tell that to people who have depending on the Hilux for decades to get them around without issue. Its probably why Toyota doesn't sell it in the states due to its design and the fact it might be too niche of a product. plus lets not forget how well Tacoma sales are going.

Its for the same reason that the Suzuki Jimny is still so successful in the UK. Consumers over there want something that's affordable and built to last, not placing much importance on how the vehicle actually looks.
