Ranger Wildtrak vs X-Class

The guys over at CarAdvice decided to see how Mercedes Benz newest UTE stacks up to the current segment leader in AUS. They found the X Class to be let down by a bunch of small things, and still felt the Ranger to be of better value.

Too bad this won't apply to the greater market, but it will once brands like BMW come along with a pick up of their own. Already there has been rumors of it happening. BMW has the capital and know how.

Mercedes could always consider bringing the X Class to NA in the future. The one reason it really became a production vehicle was due to the success of the Navara. And there have been rumors of a BMW pickup for years.

People would just go for the Mercedes X-Class because it's better looking and has the luxury badge, but all the leather isn't worth around $60k. They got it right by saying it's a "skin deep" thing whereas the Ranger was designed to perform.

If they do i won't mind having a cargo version which would work out great for fleet sales. An X-Class with and enclosed bed can be a great work vehicle. Already products like the Metris and Sprinter go their foot in the door to this market, can't hurt to further diversify.

I don't think Mercedes has really delivered on a luxury pickup with the X Class, and in my opinion it shares far too many similarities with the much cheaper Navara. If it does come to North America, hopefully its not until the second generation where its seen some quality improvements.

I think we'll probably seem some improvements with the V6 model, especially if quality issues become a common complain amongst owners. Goes to show that there is definitely a benefit to having more experience making pickups, as the new Ram's cabin is leaps above the X Class.

Tuning is what I will be looking into but it has to deliver more lower end power which for someone like myself with an active lifestyle is a major incentive.
Alternatively, Mercedes could very well offer special editions with different tuning profiles.

I don't know how much interest there would be in even more premium variants of the X Class, as that will surely result in an ever higher price bracket. If anything I think they'll have to include more options on the base model if they hope to compete with the Ranger at all.

Mercedes has always offered Edition One versions of their vehicles which don't require too much so i can see that being a good start to test the waters for something even better.
