Ranger FX4 vs Toyota Tacoma- Off Road

TFL recently set out to test just how well the new Ranger stacks up to the Tacoma in an off-road performance test. They do think Ford's latest midsize is a pricey truck and its held back by a lack of engine options. It seemed to handle the trails just as well as the Tacoma however and the impressive trail control system was noted.

Which truck is better off-road?.... yeah like a 14 minute video would really reflect what we'll experience. All bets are placed on the Tacoma till the Ranger racks up enough miles.

Aftermarket support is going to play a huge role in the off road prowess of both these trucks. Anyone serious about taking it on trails is going to be making some big changes. Namely lockers and better ground clearance.

Of all the pickup's I've seen in this segment, modded versions haven't shown up much. Even if they do, most people stick with their favorite pickup brand.

Ford guys will always buy Ford and likewise with Toyota guys

Clearance does seem to be a bigger issue on the Ranger, though many will probably never take it on trails as aggressive as this. From the video it does appear that the Ranger is also more comfortable and it seemed to handle sharper turns on inclines a bit better.

Most clearance issues get solved with entry-level off-roading mods and once you're stress testing a pickup that much, buying a lift kit and/or bigger wheels/tires isn't hard to justify.

I think they should do another comparison video but against the Colorado instead. As successful as the Tacoma is, those looking for a comfortable, sensible truck will probably be deciding between Chevy and Ford.

I'll be waiting to see what Toyota has in store because very soon we'll see some major changes to the Tacoma.
