Classic Ranger Tears Up 1/4 Mile

Just found this video of a classic 90's Ranger absolutely dominating on the track, during a truck wars competition. This little thing sure can move, and I'm curious what exactly the specs are on it to give it this kind of performance. Looks like its running some nitrous.

Wow that little truck sure has some pep. Its 0-60 has got to be less than 5 seconds. Really get a sense of how much has changed in the new generation, in terms of styling and size.

Yeah its a shame that there aren't many regular cab pick up's left in the segment. It doesn't look like Ford has much interest anymore in smaller vehicles, so we may have to wait and see what Hyundai does with the Santa Cruz, or maybe we'll see the return of the Mazda B series here in NA.

I'm pretty sure that the B series trucks are still available in the UK, so there's a chance we could see Mazda reintroduce it to North America in the future. I'm pretty sure that Hyundai said we wont be seeing the Santa Cruz until at least 2020.

If Mazda does it then I hope they team up with another car maker such as Ford like they did in the past. Even with the pick-up boom happening, it still is a risky move for a brand like Mazda. Existing brands that make pick-ups or vehicles close to them already have a better chance.

Well I don't think Mazda would have to do much to the platform currently being used in the UK, for a North American variant. Very similar to what Ford decided to do with the AUS T6 Ranger. I just think the segment could use some more compact options, because there aren't many left.

There seems to be movements towards more compact pickups around the world starting with the Ranger and there's even the X-Class. Full sized models will still have its place, but people are starting to look at smaller alternatives.

I think the main reason for this is the transition to smaller turbo based engines in pickups. Without the need for monstrous V8's automakers can look to smaller platforms that provide just as much utility.

There's always going to be a need for full-sized trucks, but probably limited to those who need it for work and hobbyists will probably go for something smaller as long as it fits all their things and can tow their boats.

Don't depend on pick up truck makers to redefine what a size certain segments should be. The only thing holding most from owning a pick up is range. Once that is handled then it will be even more of a lucrative market.
