Ford Ranger Storm Concept

Since we aren't going to be getting the Ranger Raptor, some may be interested in this sporty concept that was introduced at the Sao Paulo Motor Show. It looks every bit as hardcore as the Raptor, with an aggressive front fascia, skid plants and air intakes. It does produce a bit less power (197hp) and torque (346), but its expected to be much cheaper. The diesel engine may yet again indicate its staying in Europe however.

This is a great looking concept, especially with how they've done the two tone color scheme. I do think Ford should consider bringing a higher tier trim level to NA, to gauge what interest would be like in the Raptor.

I always felt there was a need for some inbetween product, much like how Ford sells an ST version of its Fiesta and Focus hatch. Done as just an up-fit from the regular Ranger can make a solid case.

From what I've been seeing this version will be exclusive to Europe as well. Ford seems to be testing that market will all of their premium variants of the Ranger, but hopefully solid interest in them will allow Ford to bring it overseas.

Its a matter of patience for the North American markets, buying habits are changing and thus will soon become more in line with EU buyers. I'm just happy we're getting a Ranger again.

Has Ford at least confirmed the Wildtrak for NA? As that's currently the best selling model in AUS, you'd think its already proven to the company that is worth implementing here.

Reports of it being tested in the U.S. have been surfacing. While its no clear indication of what will actually happen, ultimately its intent and we know Ford isn't in the business of disappointing consumers.

They were testing Raptor models here as well and we know how that panned out. I don't think we can safely say that a road mule is proof of availability. I wouldn't expect any of those higher tier trim levels until a least a year out from launch.

The Wildtrak doesn't come with any modifications to the powertrain, so you'd really just be paying extra for some aesthetic tweaks. Since Ford is providing so much aftermarket support for the NA launch, you could probably build something fairly similar yourself.

I believe it also comes with changes to the level of standard equipment/tech. It is significantly more expensive than the lower trim levels however, and Ford has to determine how much NA customers are willing to spend on the Ranger.
