Ford Ranger Wildtrak Spied

Maybe the Raptor version won't make it to North America, but the Ford Ranger Wildtrak might because it was spied testing in Detroit. It's powered by a diesel engine because KGP Photography saw a sticker saying "diesel" on the fuel door. There's also a 115-volt power outlet on the side. You can see more pictures at pickuptrucks, and they even have a close shot of the underbody which houses a spare tire.

It really does look identical to the styling found in the Australian Wildtrak, not sure if there was much point in masking it. I have a feeling that Ford will determine the future of diesel Rangers based on how well GM does selling diesels in the midsize twins. It would be an interesting choice by Ford to offer the Wildtrak here in the U.S and not the Raptor.

They just better make sure to include enough hints of the F150 in these rangers we move up the trims. The European Ranger was a bit too down-segment looking if you know what I mean.

I was hoping there would be a bigger variation between the North American and Asian Pacific Rangers, at least in terms of styling. It really doesn't seem like much has changed minus a few internal changes relating to suspension and brakes. If their plan is to just convert all the T6 models to American standards, at least we know what to expect under that camo.

Here's an overseas 2015 Ranger Wildtrak for reference and the test mule has a similar sport fairing over the bed, roof rails, running board, and maybe extra ride height? Since it's from 2015, we can't really use it as a basis for design, but there are certain elements it shares with the new Ranger.

I wonder if we'll get to see special editions/colors of the Wildtrak like in this picture. I'm not sure if that wrap is stock, as part of the 4x4 variant, or if its something aftermarket. I really like the red FORD grill and two tone color scheme with all the black accents. Hope we see more customized models like this in NA.

If what they did to the F150 Raptor provides any indication for what will happen to the Ranger then it will mean new colors, doubt will get any special color scheme's like scene above, its not normal for Ford USA do that.

With some slight modifications it really is hard to tell the new Ranger and Raptor variant apart. It's great to see that there will be so many different builds for the new Ranger, and down the line we may see more special editions.

One of the best things they can do is come out with a bunch of customized Rangers at the next SEMA show, at this rate they should be able to do that even if it will cost them a lot of money. What they will see in terms of sales will make up for it.

SEMA would be the show to display any heavily modded Rangers or even just the Wildtrak with a few extra decals. But I'm expecting much because of how similar the F-150 Raptor looks compared to the standard model. We'll probably see a unique badge instead of those claw mark decals, but those can be easily added on via aftermarket offerings.
