Ranger Raptors claimed 0-60 time

Although its been months since Ford officially unveiled the Ranger Raptor, there are plenty of unknown details. But thanks to its international launch in Australia we know have some idea of just how quick it is off the line. Ford Performance is claiming that their new double cab ute will do the 0-60mph sprint in 10.5 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 105mph. Fuel economy is expected to be 8.2L/100km.

That sprint time isn't all that impressive when compared to the F150 Raptors time of 5 seconds flat. Looks like Ford still has some work to do in terms of power to weight ratio in the new Ranger Raptor. I think they'll have to make some changes in the second gen model.

I bet Ford will try to detune it a bit as to not step on the F-150 Raptors toes.
This will become even more true if we get great gains from a tune with little compromise to go with it.

Personally its a little ridiculous that anyone cares about sprint times in a pickup anyways. I know there's a huge demand in the market right now for performance models, but these were originally designed to be work vehicles. But for those who want something that's fast and useful can always turn to an aftermarket company like Roush.

Performance times are going to matter when you're dropping this kind of money on a pickup. Low end power is crucial on this model, whether that be on or off road.

It would be great if Ford went ahead with carbon fiber beds because another end of improving performance is weight.

The new GMC Sierra has gone this route, but there are some concerns in regards to the durability of the bed. I think the switch to a carbon fiber composite allowed them to save something like 60 pounds.

It might not seem like much but the idea is to cut weight anywhere possible, regardless of how small it is. In the end it adds up.
I've seen people gut cars for tracking and it goes to show all the nit picking people do, and it pays off.

Carbon fiber is extremely durable, but typically its quite expensive. I guess since the price of pickups continues to rise, that's not so much of a deal breaker anymore. Reduced weight should mean better fuel economy.

Price can be offset by finding ways to save in other areas and at the end of the day you don't know the price margins for every model.
Even partial carbon fiber in areas its most efficient and cost effective is a great step forward, so there's many ways to approach it.
